Institute for Religion & Critical Inquiry

Medieval and Early Modern Studies (MEMS)

We seek a dynamic and collegial scholar with an international reputation in an area of Medieval or Early Modern Studies (MEMS) to lead and mentor staff and help shape the new research program. We also seek Research Fellows and Senior Research Fellows of demonstrated research excellence to work together with the Program Director to develop collaborative research, national and international networks, and produce their own research. Positions are research only and 5 year or continuing depending on experience. Applications close 20 June. For further information, follow the links above.

The modern world has been built on self-conscious rejections of religious Byzantine and medieval pasts, and narratives of progression from the age of Renaissance and Reformation to the glories of the Enlightenment, the triumph of free-market capitalism and liberal democratic secularism. To understand this history, and to reframe it through dynamic reinterpretations of the medieval and early modern past, is the purpose of the Medieval and Early Modern programme of ACU’s Institute for Religion and Critical Inquiry.

A major hire process is underway to build further dedicated expertise in this Program. Further information will be posted here as it becomes available. The new research-only appointments will join a team of scholars with primary affiliation in other research programs who have expertise within the period in areas including:

The body
Classical receptions
Material and visual cultures
Music and sound
Philosophy and theology
Religious dissent and violence
The senses
